Configure a loopback interface

Configure a loopback interface to provide a virtual interface that remains active regardless of physical interface status, commonly used for routing protocols and management purposes.

Loopback interfaces are virtual interfaces that provide stable IP addresses for device management and routing protocols. They remain active as long as the device is operational, making them ideal for network management tasks.

Before you begin

Follow these steps to add a loopback interface for a device:

Procedure

Step 1

Select Devices > Device Management and click Edit (edit icon) for your Firewall Threat Defense device. The Interfaces page is selected by default.

Step 2

From the Add Interfaces drop-down list, choose Loopback Interface.

Step 3

In the General tab, configure the following parameters:

  1. Name—Enter a name for the loopback interface.

  2. Enabled—Check the check box to enable the loopback interface.

  3. Loopback ID—Enter the loopback ID between 1 to 1024.

  4. Description—Enter a description for the loopback interface.
